The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits
The First Tee – Nine Healthy Habits were created through a collaboration among The First Tee, ANNIKA Foundation and Florida Hospital for Children to promote healthy, active lifestyles for young people. The healthy habits are a list of nine health and wellness topics presented as a part The First Tee, formatted for easy understanding and learning by elementary-age students and chapter participants. The Nine Healthy Habits offer a comprehensive approach to youth wellness. They are organized under three categories of physical, emotional and social health.
While the Nine Healthy Habits is a new platform, The First Tee of Cleveland County has promoted a healthy and active lifestyle. At the various levels of the Life Skills Experience curriculum there are existing health and wellness activities. For example, PLAYer participants are asked to demonstrate good judgment as it relates to healthy behaviors by choosing to properly prepare their bodies through exercise, nutrition, and hydration. At Par, participants are asked to set Personal Par for wellness and physical activity. And at Birdie, participants are asked to use STAR (Stop, Think, Anticipate, and Respond) for wellness and physical activity.
Additionally, at the Eagle level, one Lesson is “Stay Well for Life” and focuses on: building physical wellness; choosing a healthy lifestyle; eat right, drink right; and personal wellness goal ladder.
Strategically the YMCA is creating maximum resources to help with the health and well being of our community. With the Nine Healthy Habits, The First Tee will continue to expand and promote healthy habits for young people.

The First Tee of Cleveland County
Age: 6 – 17
The First Tee of Cleveland County teaches youth Life Skills through the game of golf. It is a locally operated and supported non-profit organization that introduces the fun and excitement of golf to young people from all walks of life, while exposing them to life-enhancing core values such as: Honesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Sportsmanship, Judgement, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility and Courtesy.
The Life Skills experience, a unique program that differentiates The First Tee from other junior golf programs, includes instruction in the classroom and on the course that focuses on instilling in youth The First Tee’s Nine Core Values. These values are taught through a golf-centered curriculum that ensures young people understand and apply them. The lessons learned by youngsters through the Life Sills Experience are designed to have a lasting, positive influence regardless of the role golf plays in their life. As part of The First Tee’s national organization, the Cleveland County chapter will be one of only 250 golf-learning facilities in North America. The First Tee of Cleveland County offers an unforgettable experience for young people to grow and flourish through the mentorship of our program’s volunteers, staff and associates.
