Current & Upcoming Programs
Diabetes Prevention Class
Diabetes Prevention Classes will start on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 6:30. Class meets at the Cleveland County Memorial Library.
Join a certified Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach for a year long program. Participants gather in a relaxed classroom setting and work together in small groups to learn how to incorporate healthier eating and moderate physical activity into their daily lives.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a community-based lifestyle improvement program for adults with prediabetes. Its purpose is to empower adults with lasting lifestyle changes that will improve their overall health and reduce their chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
Currently, diabetes affects nearly 26 million people. Another 79 million have prediabetes and are at risk of developing diabetes, but only 11 percent are aware of it.
Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58% overall and by 71% in individuals over age 60.
If you have questions about this program, please contact Ashley Harris, RN. Phone: 704.669.3631.
Find out if you are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes by completing this simple test.

The Place to be Afterschool
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH THE Y
Children are like sponges…they watch and absorb knowledge, skills, and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best. That makes for confident kids today, and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, the Y’s Child Care programs serve school age kids with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents.
