The GWSY will be holding a luncheon for all current Y Buddy Mentors. This purpose of this luncheon is to serve as a reflection on the year and to have a forum to discuss program enhancments for next year. Check back soon for more details on the luncheon...
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
- To facilitate mentor and tutoring programs at (Springmore Elementary School or Boiling Springs Elementary School) for Gardner-Webb University students.
- To hold monthly socials and discussions in regards to volunteer activities
- To coordinate and direct the GWSY Arts Week
- To offer volunteer opportunities with the Boiling Springs YMCA after school program
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mentoring (Lunch Buddies)
- Meeting with a little buddy weekly for lunch at (Springmore Elementary School or Boiling Springs Elementary School)
- Acting as a positive role model for the students and providing an open atmosphere for discussion
- Being an encouraging and supportive part of your little buddies life
Tutoring (Study Buddies)
- Meeting with a little buddy weekly for a tutoring session at (Springmore Elementary School or Boiling Springs Elementary School)
- Acting as a positive role model for the students and providing an open atmosphere for discussion
- Being an encouraging and supportive part of your little buddies life
- Teaching academic integrity and emphasizing the importance of education
- Offering help in various studies at the elementary level
Arts Week
- Introducing children to the visual and performing arts through hands-on activities
Boiling Springs After School Program
- Provide individual opportunities for volunteers to present programs to students
- This is open to the program leader and volunteer’s ideas
Octoberfest
- Prepare and execute a booth for underprivileged and disabled student
OVERALL:
- Give children positive role models and meet the needs of schools and organizations in our community
- Offer volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child, develop leadership skills, make new friends, re-live the fun of childhood, explore personal growth, and gain experience for resumes.
- Provide leadership development and volunteer experience for Program Leaders that can be applied in life and career.
