Sweet Summertime! Wow- We really have jumped right into summer. Which means gazilions of kids are jumping into our pools, running through our hallways, taking over our play areas and filling our gym full of wild play. The sweet sounds of laughter resonate through our halls. I can't think of a better time of year. There is no more fulfilling time of year in our YMCA. I love these children! Each smile, every joke, every missing tooth, every funny story fills me with purpose. Even the band-aids, tears, tattling and the occasional cast (yikes!) make me love my job a little more.
As the Wellness Director it isn't really my job to deal with the kids on a regular basis. But as a YMCA employee it is all of our jobs to make sure that they are not overlooked, walked by, left alone, scared or ever leave our doors without having been made to feel important for that entire day.
I love that I get to show all people how to improve their lives, but nothing compares to the look on a child's face when I take the time to listen to them or sometimes just a "High Five." That's all we are really after at any age is to know that we matter. Don't forget that next time you pass a child in one of our halls. Tell them "Hello." Tell them "Hope you are having a great day!"
Our children need to know that God loves them and has always had a plan for them, and we are the catalyst for that.
"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart."
(Jeremiah 1:5a, NLT)
